...— Grimm
The player-named protagonist of the Black Souls series is a male "Chosen Undead" who battles fantastical beings based on popular fairy tales and children's novels. The player can choose between three different classes in Black Souls I and nine in Black Souls II.
Synopsis[]
Grimm is a collection of the souls of fairy tale authors fused together by Mary Sue, who had a fascination with fairy tales. Described as Mary Sue's magnum opus [1], he is very desirable to Outer Ones due to his strength and, for some, in their want to experience the human concept of love.
——The bells of the end echo throughout the world. Accompanied by the rumbling of the earth, a man awakened under collapsed rubble. Outside, he saw blood rain from the sky and grotesque malformations fill the streets.
Ah, of course...he must be seeing some sort of dreadful nightmare. This couldn't possibly be reality.
But, the man couldn't remember a thing. Not only about the scene before him, but even about who or what he was.
A young girl pulled on his arm. Her hair golden, her eyes blue, in a blue and white apron dress. Not even understanding why, the man followed her trace.
Led by the girl, the man escaped the nightmare and arrived into a dream-like land. There, every animal shared the language with humans, things that weren't were, and things that shouldn't be weren't.
There, was the land of dreams. Wonderland. The world for you.
"You should live with us, in peace, forever and ever. Mister xxxx."
Lewis/Grimm had arrived in Wonderland within the The Crawling One's garden. Alongside Alice and a black rabbit, they had tea parties and slayed the Jabberwock. Overtime, Alice and Lewis/Grimm fell in love with one another. Jealous over how close Lewis/Grimm and Alice became, the black rabbit made a wish for it to end. This summoned Mary Sue who took back Lewis/Grimm alongside others to play as actors in her own garden.
After many revisions and cycles, the events of Black Souls unfold. Eventually, Grimm enters a covenant with Baphomet who destroys the Holy Forest, making Mary Sue intervene. Mary Sue ends up killing Baphomet, calling the attention of The Crawling One who had been in a mad search for Grimm. Mary Sue is stripped of her power, which became an Outer One of its own, the Grand Guignol.
Appearance[]
Grimm is often shown as a dark figure with swept back hair within the game. In media, he is commonly depicted as an armored knight.
